FAQs

Why should I hire a certified arborist?

Certified arborists have undergone formal training and testing in tree biology, safety, pruning standards, and proper tree care practices. We follow industry-approved techniques that protect tree health and structural integrity. Hiring a certified arborist helps ensure that your trees are cared for safely and correctly, reducing risks to your property and improving long-term tree health.

How can I tell if my tree is unhealthy or stressed?

Common signs include:

  • Dead or falling branches

  • Early leaf drop or unusual leaf color

  • Cracks, cavities, or visible decay

  • Fungal growth at the base

  • Insect infestations

  • Significant leaning or soil heaving

I can perform a health assessment to diagnose issues and recommend corrective actions such as pruning, soil improvement, or pest management.

Can you remove trees or branches that are over my house?

Yes! We have a variety of ways to remove trees that are over a structure including technical, controlled rigging. You can rest easy knowing that your home is safe with us.

What does ISA stand for, and why does it matter?

ISA stands for the International Society of Arboriculture. It is the leading professional organization for tree care worldwide. ISA certification means that your arborist has met rigorous education and experience standards, passed a comprehensive exam, and is committed to ongoing training. This ensures that your tree care is based on the latest science and best practices—not outdated or harmful techniques.

Do you remove trees, and how do you know when removal is necessary?

Yes, I provide safe tree removal when it’s the best or only option. Removal may be necessary if a tree is:

  • Dead or in advanced decline

  • Structurally unsafe

  • Severely pest- or disease-damaged

  • Causing property damage that cannot be mitigated

I always prioritize preservation when possible, but if removal is required, I use safe, industry-standard rigging and equipment to protect your property.

Can you top my tree to make it shorter?

No—topping is never recommended.
Topping is the drastic removal of large branches or cutting a tree’s canopy back to stubs. It causes significant harm by:

  • Creating large wounds that invite decay and pests

  • Forcing the tree to sprout weak, fast-growing water shoots

  • Increasing the risk of branch failure

  • Shortening the tree’s lifespan

Instead, we offer proper reduction pruning, which safely reduces height or spread while preserving the tree’s structure and health.

How often should my trees be pruned?

It depends on the species, age, and condition of the tree. Most mature trees benefit from pruning every 3–5 years, while younger trees may need more frequent structural pruning to develop strong branch architecture. After a site evaluation, I can recommend a custom pruning schedule based on your trees’ needs.
